remote heater

hi my neighbour has a 54reg freelander which has a type of remote heater which when he presses the button from inside his house ,by the time he comes out the snow and ice has melted from his windows and the car is nice and warm inside. anyone know of this system and where i might be able to buy one and is it some thing easy to fit . thanx.

erm clifford do remote start on automatic vehicles (they will fit them to manual ones but they don't like doing it)

Think you might find it's not so much a remote heater but a remote starter, my mate has one on his car, means engine is all warmed up ready to go. It's linked to the alarm system.

Ffs - dont yu ever read! Its a fuel burning hester! Fitted to loads if fsylanders and some discos.

And it's not a remote starter, it's an upgrade that is a remote control that starts the FBH and the blower so if defrosts your car.

1) Freelander 1 Engine & Cabin Pre- Heater (Td4 only)

'Mounted in the engine compartment, this system uses the diesel from the fuel tank to warm both the engine and the cabin before you leave the house, the heater can be controlled with either a timer or remote control handset and will also switch on the interior fan heater according to your previously selected temperature and speed.Not compatible with the bumper mounted Fog Lamp Kit. Can only be fitted to Td4 models with a VIN/Chassis number suffix of 2A209831 onwards.'

Defrost and pre-warming of vehicle heating system.
NB: Supplementary or parking heater required
NB: For Td4 02.5MY vehicles onwards.

Part Number: JEC500320 <----- This appears to be the Fuel Burning Heater Unit itself (FBH) with fuel lines, pump etc - standard in TD4 Freelanders that aids cold weather starting (lives in the front passenger wheel arc and often puffs smoke and makes a lot of noise when the temperature is 5 degrees C or below. Make sure you check before you buy!

P.S Mine is so loud, you can hear it over the engine driving 60 yards down the street. LOL!



2) Timer Kit <--- This is just the timer and the mounting kit, no remote.

Allows pre-timing of Parking Heater operation.

So there are two options: Remote control, or timer version.

Both have disadvantages/advantages.

Presumably the only disadvantage of the timer version, is it turns on every day and if you don't drive the vehicle you get a flat battery within 5 days or so?

The obvious disadvantage with the remote version is if you don't 'zap' it - it ain't turning on.

might seem daft, but why not just get up a bit earlier or send the missus out to start it while you finish your brekkie???

there's a second company, as well as Webasto - its called eberspacher.

You can get heaters that heat air, and blow it into your car (more basic, but can be used whilst driving to supplement crappy heater matrices)
Or, you can get heaters that warm water ( these are kinder to your engine, as they pre heat the cooland, and then a relay turns your fans on in the car, but they cannot be used on the move.)
