Does my car have remote?
I have just bought a 2001 Y reg (I think) 1951cc TD4 3 door commercial.
I bought it with only a small key. This works the central locking in the drivers door keyhole, but was curious as to whether this model had remote central locking as standard?
or can one be fitted?
I have seen an ad for a plip and programmer for £50 that plugs into the OBD socket, but reluctant to spend that if the car aint compatible.

It does have remote locking. You can buy the remotes on ebay and then get them programmed to your Freelander. The remotes lock the doors, super lock the doors and turn on the volume sensing side. The key lock when turned once locks the doors. When turned twice it locks and super locks the doors. Without the remote you can't turn on volume sensing, which is something your insurance will expect you to have.

Have seen the cheap odbii remotes on ebay but don't know if they do everything.

thanks for taking time to reply hippo.
I will try a few locksmiths for a quote.
I understand I need to contact landrover themselves for a second key? or will the locksmith help me out there too?

I'm pretty sure there was someone here a while ago who managed to get a spare key cut from Timpson. Rings a bell as I recall looking at the mini Timpson in our local branch of Tescos, but they didn't have what I wanted. They hinted the proper shops might be able to help.
