Hi everyone, Im still researching before I plump for what I am going to do next.

If you guys were going to do either an ECU remap or fit a Power Chip from PSI/Tunit, which would you do and why.

A PSI box is going to cost around £325 Range Rover P38 Diesel PSI Power Tuning Chip 95-99 on eBay (end time 19-Feb-10 19:04:19 GMT) and a remap around £200 Remap UK | Elite Remaps UK, Remapping, Remap, Engine Remap, Remapped, Chiptuning, Chip Tuning, Car remap, Ecu remap, Ecu chip, Engine remap, car tuning, Custom Remap

Im not that bothered by the cost of either of these options, Im more interested in getting which ever is best.

Thanks Guys

Re-map is probably best, but you could loose it if you ever have a problem that requires the stealer to look at the engine ECU. The plug in box is portable and can be fitted or removed at will, for example for emmisions MOT.

well i have got the power box on mine and i am very pleased with it,with the p/box you can take it of and resell it when you sell your p38,the chip you cannot as it is soldered in,or your own one is remapped.so it's up to you really.plus you can find the p/box on ebay as well.

The company that does the remap say
Can the process be reversed?
"Of course if for any reason you would like your vehicle to be returned to its original settings maybe when your ready to change vehicle we can reverse the whole process and we will offer this service free of charge. But in most cases the enhanced performance may help the sale of your vehicle. Should you lose your modified software due to dealer actions or parts failure your we will be happy to re-install the map onto your car free of charge for as long as you own the vehicle."

I must admit I assumed that useing either the remap or chip box would make the emmisions better.

if you get the p/box you can always remove it for the mot if it does alter the emmisions,my one went through the mot with no probs with it fitted.

If boxes and chipping operate as claimed then any efficiency savings are surely due to reducing fueling in certain situations and power increases are gained through burning more fuel in others, yes? Surely idling, when you only need enough fuel to keep engine ticking over, is most likely to be somewhere in the map that you could save fuel, along with overrun situations; therefore as long as you're not burning oil, emissions shouldn't be an issue.

Some of the re-maps/powerboxes overfuel under some conditions to such an extent that black smoke becomes a problem for the test. Not the case with the PSI box I have fitted, the car sailed through the French MOT with very good emissions figures.

Hi all

re Tunit box has anyone fitted one of these box's i have one to fit no instructions etc so not sure where yo plug in also there is a black wire to connect is the an earth lead ?

any thoughts please

Does anyone know if the RR P38 version of the Bimmer engine uses the same plug for the ECU as the stock BMW/Omega installations? just thinking that might open up further tuning options.

What does everyone think to this ?
Im thinking of buyin for mine :S
RangeRover P38 diesel Tuning Chip on eBay (end time 11-Feb-10 21:14:48 GMT)

When I started looking into chipping my dozel, I spoke to our local Superchip dealer/installer, he stated that he had to open up the engines ecu, unsolder the original chip from the PCB, then solder in a push fit chip base plate and then install the new chip. I believe that you maybe able to fip out an old chip and fit a new one on latter ecu's but not early ones....:(

Hello everybody

On my daily search of Google I found this and I would just like to say that for anybody with concerns about having their P38 Chipped we do offer a full money back guarantee if you was not completely satisfied also reference returning the car to stock you will find approx 30-40% of the Bosch DDE3.0 control units in P38's do have sockets already installed on the board meaning your chip can easily be swapped back and forth but for those that are soldered direct to the PCB we are also happy to fit a socket at the same time so the chip can be swapped at any time with no need for any solder work.

Regards
Dave

If a removeable chip were used could it be put into any P38 diesel?

So if i decided to later on to get another P38 Diesel could I take the chip out and out it into my new one?

How about a discount for members of this forum.....:D

Yes if the SW Version on the 2nd vehicle is the same then you can use it and you will only find a few SW Versions so I would say you have a very good chance of being able to transfer it to your next P38.

Regarding price I do feel we are very competitive however I would offer all members a 10% discount off our normal web price inc TD5, TD6, TDV6 & TDV8 models just quote LandyZone when calling or enter LandyZone into the Promotion Code box when booking online.
