Refurbish or Replace Leaf Springs

Hi All

I was in the process of looking at prices to replace my leaf springs until I came across this article.

My springs look very similar and I was wondering if I can simply refurbish my springs .... Replace them.

Also can I replace the clamps ... I have 2 that are broken ... Please see photos.

Your help will be greatly appreciated

I say top two in pic would refurb,bottom two past it.

I agree but would have a go at refurbing anyway - what have you got to lose!

You can get replacement clamps n nuts need to be torqued to correct setting. Drivers side spring is different to the others , check n the work shop manual.

Craddocks or Paddocks definetly stock them, not expensive. What state are the retaining plates they screw onto? When I did mine I just buffed off all the rust and repainted them, but you've got to watch the stub for the shock absorder isn't too worn. You can get them as well. I hope you're going to replace the bushes and bolts? Otherwise its not really doing the full job. I see the bushes are still inside the springs, the only way to get them out is with a drift or last resort burn the rubber and eventually they'll come out. If the bushes n bolts have been in for a long time the chassis holes could be ovaled. Before fitting new ones suggest you ream the holes to make sure they are round. Good luck with this job; it was by far the worst cruddy job I've ever done on my landy ...and I'm taking it to a garage for the front ones.
