Is it normal for the red ring around the ignition switch to be illuminated when the car is locked? I’ve only owned it for a week but haven’t noticed it before. Don’t want to wake up to a flat battery tomorrow...

Hmmm thought that would be the case.

My courtesy lights no longer switch off with doors closed, and the tailgate one is permanently on because it has no switch, so I disconnected it.

I have removed all of the door switches and they looked fine. I cleaned them with contact cleaner for good measure, but still got the same problem.

Any more suggestions?

Still no solution.

I’ve de-soldered the ignition lamp, switched off the interior lamps, and disconnected the boot lamp.

Is there anything else on that circuit that can still deplete the battery, or am I now safe?

If there was an issue with one of the door pins remaining closed as it would be if a door is open, the interior lamps have a delay which is controlled by the infamous multi function unit MFU the exact time can be found in your owners handbook, could be something like 14 minutes plus or minus.

The door pin switches do nothing more that tell the MFU a door is open, the MFU then switches on the lamps so it may have a fault, it also looks after a few other circuits one being the windscreen wiper delay function, key-in ignition switch beep, lights on, heated screen timer etc etc.
There’s a diagnostic function for the MFU which can be found in this Forum or via Google.
Are u now safe, who knows you will have to wait and see :D

I did have a go at trying to get into the MFU's diagnostic mode, but to no avail. Having only owned the car for a week, I don't know if the switch for the rear heated window could be an issue, so that's in my mind before blaming the MFU.

Having said that, the rear wiper worked a week ago, then didn't work for about a week, and now works again. The courtesy light issue didn't occur while the wiper didn't work, but now that it does, the courtesy lights are stuck on.

The indicators also stopped working for a while, but I put that down to a blown fuse which I replaced and they were fine. Strangely, the hazard warning lights worked even when the indicators didn't.

My daughters were playing in the back of the disco earlier in the week and they insisted that the boot light switched off when they closed the door, and I'm sure I would have noticed before now if it was on overnight.

Do you think this combination of issues could all be down to the MFU? I'd be quite pleased if that was the case. then at least it's just a quick swap.

Ok after the initial “handshake’ the MFU should start up the diagnostic function like switching on the wipers or what ever is the first function. If it doesn’t want to know I assume that its faulty, I haven found any thing stated what to do other than a replacement unit, although ive not needed too.
I have only tried it once that was around 20 years ago, i was amazed at the time to how the MFU was switching things on and off while I was just sitting there and the access to function was so simple.
