I have just bought a Range rover classic 300TDi soft dash and the the problem is the rear electric windows do not work.I know its not the fuse or switches or the rear windows lock switch on the centre dash, does anbody have any idea what else it could be? Thanks..........

Dont know what I have done but none of the windows work now!So much for trying to fix it myself.I dont think I helped myself much by following a 1990 workshop manual for a 1994 car, there is quite a lot of difference on where things are.Is there any body out there that can help ??????????

ok. get a multimeter. remove the switch from the console. probe the wires on the back of the switch. there should be 5/6 wires on each.
1 live 1 or 2 earths , 2 motor wires and illumiation wire.

check there is voltage on the live wire.
also check the inhibitor switch ( CHILD LOCK ) on the dash

if poss remove the door cards and check continuity between the the motor wires in the door jam and the switches as these can break over the years of opening and closing the doors.....
i shall fish out the wiring for the car and post it later as im at work at the mo.

Thanks Mick that would be great as I am stuck now and thinking of selling a Lung so I can afford to take it to a auto electrician!

i think you'll need to sell both lungs and a kidney!! to pay for a auto elecrtion..... i am pretty sure that myself and other members can help you out.:)
hang fire and ill find the paperwork for you car...

Managed to sort it out !The relay was buggered but on the 94 soft dash it is behind the glove box which I eventually found and replaced it with a standard relay(the original looked a bit expensive) and everything is working fine.Just waiting for my springs and gas shocks from paddock spares and its off we go to spain with the caravan.Thankyou all for your help just one last thing does the air con really lower your MPG by a lot ??????

No its on factory springs there were not many made but this one of them.To be truthful it would be nice for towing if it was on air but what ive never had I don,t miss especially when I get the new springs and shocks put on tomorrow.Does your air suspension make a big difference.?
Mark................

Hi Rick back from hols car pulled really well,a lot better than what i thought it would the only problem was a slight knocking when we went over a bump which has turned out to be the self leveling unit on the back of the car.I have priced one up and its about £250 you dont know where I can get a decent secondhand one ? Regards mark

nice one mate , glad you had a good holiday , your self leveler thats knocking is it the unit itself knocking or the ball joint ? i had a similar problem a few years ago with a leveling unit and it turned out to be the ball joint these are easily available and a lot cheaper than £ 250.00 although a bit of a sh*t job to do unless you have access to a ramp or vehicle lift .

No rick its the unit its self as ive had it on the ramp and whatever was in it gas or oil has gone and it just contracts very easily and does nothing.I think if i get a new unit i will replace the ball joint aswell if it does not already come with it.By the way hows your new car running and did you sell your Lse???? Mark.............

hiya mark , its a pity that mate , i know a new one is a expensive thing to buy , ill ask a freind of mine tomorrow for a price or if he has a good s/h one .
i sold the lse in less than 1hr on ebay a guy from bristol saw it he rang me , came up on the train and drove home in it deal done :) , he`s emailed me and said he`s chuffed with it and cant believe how economical it is on lpg .
the p38a i bought is now running like a dream , unlike when i bought her :( :( :( i`ve fitted a new radiator and the temp gauge stays where it should just a midge`s under normal , it was running like a bag of sh*t on lpg and petrol although on petrol it was a little better , but after a good look round it i found a split in the vac hose from the plenum chamber to the fuel pressure regulator ( not good ) i fitted a new hose , then found a split in the breater hose from the plenum chamber to the top of the r/h rocker cover :( i replaced that and wow !!!!!!! it goes like sh*t of a chrome shovel :D :D :D , what a bledding difference , christ knows how long it had been like that , but the guy i bought it off said he ran it mainly on petrol because it had no guts on gas !!!!!! no bloody wonder :) anyway i am chuffed to bits with it now so much so i may even consider selling my lexus ls400 :D and thats saying summat ! .
anyway back to your plight if my freind can sort you one at resonable cost i`ll give you a shout tomorrow mate , take care rick.

hiya mark spoke to my mate today cost of a new one is around £350.00 plus vat :( he reckons get a good second hand one ( which he doesnt have ) or throw the bugger away and fit heavier duty rear spring sorry i could`nt help more mate :( .
rick.
