Hi all, new to the forum, have been scouring all threads for the fault I have but can't seem to find one. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Its an 05 5door freelander.

Basically when you lower the rear window it will go down to where you want but if you try and bring it back up it will come up and as soon as you take your finger off the switch it goes right back down?
Not sure how these work, im used to BMW's where if the motor has to much resistance then it will drop back down into the door as a safety feature (anti trap).
If I hold the button down till it closes then its fine, just when I want it half open it keeps going down the whole way and like i say when bringing it up to half way and release the button it will keep dropping!!
Any thoughts??
Thanks in advance for any light shed on my problem.

Mine's always done that, and from what I've read I think it's supposed to work like this. I can get mine to drop about 1/4 tho and it will stay there, but this has to start from the closed position and not going from open.

I've now got the opposite problem - my window's jammed shut, and no amount of pressing the switch will open it. The tailgate's also jammed as a result. This does intermittently happen when the weather's hot, so I need to open it all up and have a look at what gives. IF I can get the tailgate open, of course. Not that I can drive the poxy thing at the mo as I have a broken ankle. My missus spotted this fault earlier and inquired why the horn beeped at her every time she locked the car...

JC,

Creeeg and Nick are correct - from what you've written in your post, you have described the correct operation of the rear window.

If you want it part way down, starting from fully closed it will stop wherever you wish. If you then want to close it a bit - that is not possible - if you move it up a bit and then stop short of being fully closed - it will fully open.

If you want anything other than fully closed or fully open then you must start from fully closed and stop it on the way down.

I don't understand why they designed it like this - but they did.
