Was looking at buying a discovery 1 lowing miles with lift etc but the rear diffs just gone!

Is this fixable by myself? Or is it a garage job?

Just trying to work out if it's still worth me buying as he said he'd only drop £300?

rear diff is an easy enough job , just remove prop, both drive members and the half shafts and the 10 nuts holding diff unit in, rtv silicone is fine to seal the replacement diff

Easy to do yourself with minimal tools, cost to you should be no more than £70 (that's a new diff, tube of gasket sealant and some oil)

Ahhh gotcha! Might be arranging a trailer anyway. It's actually a part ex for a 106 gti I've got, could work out a good deal my way... If I can repair it myself which by the sounds of it, I can!

True, I guess :)
I was trying to save but I couldn't turn this deal down! I'll be on the hunt for a diff and do some reading up on swapping it...

So they don't come with gaskets, just use sealant?

Just buy second hand diff.
Sealant is good, or gasket is part number 7316 if you want to use one, although the last time I used just a gasket it had a slight weep, used both the time after.
