Rear Diff/Drive Shafts

Hi Guys,
I have a Freelander 1 which is causing me a little greif.
The car has a knocking noise seriouly mechanical when I reverse with right hand down (knock 3/4 times) it also repeats itself when I drive forward following this situation. I occassionally get the noise when I turn right a traffic lights or at a road junction especially a slow speeds. The noise reminds me of when I had a Mini 1 with defective cv joints
I removed the diff outer plate on Saturday and inspected the gears no obvious missing teeth, no bits in the oil, minor swarf on filler plug magnet.
Checked all suspension mountings no obvious play etc. Replaced defective diff mounting.
Checked CV joints for wear, minor wear only not visually inspected cv joint.
New tyres all round so diff windup is not a problem.
Checked and had checked vicous coupling and this is ok.
Any help please

I was going to suggest front diff mount but you say you have changed one of the mounts - which one?

Thanks for reply, mount changed front, the noise is definatly a cracking or crunch when I move slowly on lock forwards or backwards.
It reminds me od the days that I drove a Mini mk 1 when the CV joints would crack.
Not sure whether to start replacing the driveshafts starting with the r/hand side and see what happens.....any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply.
The IRD has been checked on a number of occassions, like turning with a set of stilsons; checking for the IRD being hot which it does not get hot; driving upto 10 miles an hour taking the car out gear and freewheeling the car just freewheels no resitance of any magnitude.
I am seriously looking at stating to replace the drive shafts starting with the righthand side
 
Or front cv......noise travels in perculiar ways on a hippo.

Thanks for the reply, my guess has been todate the R/H rear driveshat inbord CV joint.
I am considering to start to replace the drive shafts starting with that one
I did replace one on the front R/H side about 6 months ago due to a fault on the reluctor ring causing 3 amigos to light up
 
In case anyone else is searching through these snags, mine was due to the prop shaft bolts not being quite tight enough on to the diff flange.
That has fixed these noises for me!

Hi it's 100% the rear sub frame mount on o/s r cracked and pulling out of body
The cheapest fix a I have done a couple of times is to weld the sub frame to the body other wise gets very expensive replacing the box section lr do a repair section
If u look at the right hand o/s body where the bolt is u will see cracking
When loaded up on lock this opens up and moves
Caused by seized vcu
Later cars were strengthened at that point

It all those symptoms, but no cracks found.
Bolts on prop shaft to rear diff input shaft tightened, all noise gone!

It went in to have the welding done....... But it wasn't that!

Following your guidance, I've had a bloody good look and poke about where you said and I can see a few cracks, just!
Looks like I need to find a better Land Rover Specialist, but to be fair, he is a real Land Rover specialist!
But there were lots of frequent little creaking noises and occasional one loud click, the frequent noises have gone, just the occasional loud click now! So prop shaft bolts could have been a contributing factor!
So thanks for your advice.
