Hi all.
As I put new brake shoes, drum, cylinders, springs etc etc in last year I decided to check them to see if they needed adjusting or anything on the weekend.

I jacked up one side, put in neutral with the hand brake off.
Spun the wheel, it went aprox one revolution then jammed solid, forward and back, almost like the brakes were being applied.

The cam adjuster was loose at this stage.

Took the wheel nuts off so I could take drum off to see what was going on, as I un-done the last nut, the wheel freed off and could rotate again.
So I did the nuts up and it locked up again.
When I took the drum off, I could see nothing that was catching, put it all back together and it rotated freely again...

Any ideas?

Hi just a though, it happened by a mate his backplates were on the wrong way ie. RH to LH
the adjuster should be at the front,if it is not the the rotation of the drum pulls the shoe towards it and locks up.

bit of a puzzler, does it matter which nut is tightened to lock it, does it lock up with wheel off and nuts tight, can you post a pic with drum removed

chamfer the edges of the linings, had a montego years ago and it would lock up on new linings as drums were oval slightly.

It may not be the cause, but certainly won't hurt to try

Heres how it looks, the snail cam adjuster is towards the front

that looks ok, with the front top spring onto the shoe post.
if the drums are oval, you might be able to check by putting them on back to front then measuring with a fixed scribe/nail positioned on the inside of drum, spin the drum slowly and see if a gap appears, drums are quite cheap and the rest seems new!
