Rear Brake Drum Removal

Doing a 200Tdi covershion at the mo, so at the weekend I thort I best give the brakes a service and check up befor she goes back on the road.

But I could not get the rear drums off for love nor money, apear to be rusted on solid

Anyone got any good tips for removing them??

I tryed that, or maybe I need a bigger hammer!

is it bouncing when you try to get the drum of[ie brake shoes rubbing,if back the ajusters off] if not its rusted to the flange\half shaft joint,a bit of heat +judicial clouting with a big hammer will free it,try and use a THOR type leather faced hammer if pos,if still no luck you can nick the drums with the grinder and split em with a cold chisel,new drums will be needed of course
when you refit them make sure you put copperslip on the flanges to prevent this happening again mate,,,,,,hope this helps ,,,dave

The drum is free to rotate, just stuck to the flange.

Iv got a large nylon dead blow hammer, so ill give it a go with a bit of heat and that.

Have ye taken the screw out of the drum?

There should also be a threaded hole to screw a bolt in to push the drum off. Can't remember the size.

....i kinda thought he would of done that allready....

Yeah Iv taken the screw out of the drum, I learnt that lesson many years ago on an old mini. The screw came out easy considering the drum appears to be rusted on!

If the shoes have worn through the drum material then there will be a lip in the drum that the shoes are stuck against.
Undo the square adjuster bolt on the backplate as far as it will go then keep whacking the drum outwards until it falls on your foot
