Hi all

I want to fit some bench seats in the rear of my Defender 90 (which I get on Thursday and am pathetically childishly excited about)...I saw a picture of some bench seats that lift up to reveal storage underneath (not much, but probably about 6 inches deep) which would be great, but not been able to find any anywhere...assume this was a custom build?

Any ideas?

Cheers, Token

That sounds like quite a good idea actually and would certainly increase space in the back when carrying passengers. Any chance you could find the pic and post it up? Id never heard of that being done before but i cant imagine would be too difficult. Weld up some boxes to fit into the wheel arches and cut and hinge a lid on the wheel box inside which the bench could bolt onto (i'd imagine).

Only thing i could think would be a downside is that the box would maybe stop the full travel of the wheel up into the arch?

Its not the same but for storage I bought a second hand van vault and cut it in half so that it didn't protrude to far into the load space. Then I cut the top down so that the seats would sit in the right place.. It does protrude about 2" past the edge of the seats but it doesn't make that much difference and I can fit loads into it...

If you are putting them into the wheel boxes then bear in mind whether your tyres will hit them on full upward travel.

There is a company that makes side lockers and very basic roof tents...possibly called landybox? They used to advertise in LRO/LRM. They also make boxes that sit flush with the floor in a defender and utilise the space between your axle/a-frame and the bottom of the tub.
