300 tdi 1996 :confused::confused: Hi just a little help. Fitted 2" lift kit and replaced all bushies with poly bush. Every thin seemed fine untill I took it over a few hills. Heard a clunk to find one side of anti-roll bar flipped over and now resides against the plate where the spring sits. Will put pic on tomorrow as it's a bit dark at the moment. First thought was did I put it on like this. Wouldn't have thought so. I took it off and refitted it. Went on the same hill, as I went over the top I heard the knock again as it flipped over. Has anyone else had a similar problem. If so How did you sort it. Going to try flipping the bar over tomorrow see if it makes a difference.

yep that will happen with a lift..

take anti roll bar off... it will remove itself very soon anyway...

mine ripped mounts out of chassis, 2nd time i seen that happen...
 
Well was a waste of time sorting that out. lol Do they not hold the road round corners as good then. Not that I rag it around. Did you take off the front ones aswell.

To be fair, given the fact it's lifted, I doubt you'll notice any difference with them removed anyway, so just bin & forget, fella.
I had to grind the nuts off mine as they were rusted on good and proper.
 
Its quite straightforwad to make yourself some spacers out of box section or lower the chassis mount if your handy with a welder. This should stop the ARB over stretching and flipping over. As the others say though im not sure it would be worth it.
 
When you take them off you do get more body roll, but it develops a set in a long bend and holds the road just as well as with ARB's ...

Wife hates it, but she has Menieres disease and has issues with rolling and pitching, gawd only knows why she loves green-laning!!
 
I put box section between chassis and arb bushes on mine.. still ripped one mount off... There more articulation with the lift so puts more stress on mounts..

I ain't noticed much difference to roll on corners.. I do at least 200 motorway miles a week just gettin to work..
 
unfortunatly if you do remove it as of sept I think it is it will fail its mot... I would go with the box section idea.
 
Mine failed MOT when I forgot to put ARB's back on for it .. if the tester knows the vehicle was originally fitted with them, they have to be fitted to pass the MOT!

He's tested mine for a few years now so knows it well.

'course, I took 'em straight off again when i got home after getting it through .. so much more articulation and suppleness off-road, which is where mine mostly is!
 
Well took it off and can't tell much difference. Like I say I don't rag it round the roads. So there's no issue I think. I'm still going with the box section Idea for when the MOT is due. But as it's not long since passed. I'll not make them for a while. Thank's for all your replies and info. Just need to try it off road now. :D:D
 
I wouldn't bother with the box section, just put them back on .. they don't test operation, just that they're there.

The difference when off-roading, or even 'just' green-laning is well worth the 1/2 hour to take 'em off again!
 
When I had one. I lowered the mounts using box section this kept fairly decent road manners. But I kept the fixings clean and lubed so it could be removed in 5 mins for playing.
If it had an anti roll bar from the factory technically it should be there for its mot. But some had brackets and no bars in the change over years so I suspect the mot man won't know if it was meant to have one or not!!! As long as you underseal the evidence:D
