Seems like many of us are facing some problem with the gearbox. I've an interesting one too.
I did an experiment today and placed the transfer box into neutral and then selecting gear 4 on the main level and releasing the clutch. to my horror, i get a terrible rattling sound. the moment i clutch in, it's gone.
It's worse on gear 5 and lesser on gear 3 to 1. I've done this before abt 1 yr ago and i didn't get this.
I confirmed with another owner to do this and there's no rattling sound.
However, gear shifting is normal and driving is normal.
Any idea where to attack first? could it be anything serious that needs immediate attention?
The 2002 td5 defender 90 has done 86k km since new. changed the oil at 60k km. not subjected to minor or heavy off roading. Box is a R380.
