This film is just shy of 50 years old!

This film is the work of my father. He was one of the original members of the Land Rover Club when the club was the only club in the world and made up of a just handfull of guys out of Solihull England, he was in the original line up who setup what we all know as RTV trialing today.

This film was the "Ancaster Land Rover Trial of 1963" he's driving '1728 AC'.

Back in the day when cine cameras had no sound, and the rule was you went off roading in a shirt and tie and a waistcoat.

I'll be uploading more films to youtube as I get them transcribed, these cine films haven't seen the light of day outside of my dads attic in over 20 years!

If you are a driver in this films or you see your car: please PM me.
you can subscribe to my youtube if you want to see more of these Vintage Series films as I release them.

Cheers
Battenberg.

Excellent footage, particularly enjoyed the passenger standing up to help spot the section! No seatbelts in them days eh!!

Nowadays passengers aren't allowed to stand BETWEEN sections never mind while on them!!

I've just spent today setting out for the West Wales 4x4 group trial which is tomorrow, plenty of fun to be had!!

Crazymac, keep your eyes peeled as i'm uploading another film right now. I also read that you have one of my discovery auxilary switch panels... and not yet fitted.. naughty boy:)!!

Thanks for the film. So good to see Land Rovers as they left the factory, with no stupid wheels, winches, or other bolt-ons, and probably all with the original tiny engines, still doing what they were made for, brilliantly. When I started going to off-road events, much later than 1963, most of the competitors were still using series Is. I think that was probably in the late 1970s. And, yes, they were all in black and white!! Thanks again.

How nice to see such a comment on LandyZone!

How did your trial go? did you win?

Not competing these days so I was marshal and winch recovery.

I smashed my knee up nearly 10 years ago and been unable to drive the trialer since:( I'm on the list for a complete new knee in the next couple of months (about time as i've had 22 operations on it in the last 10 years) so hopefully back competing next season!

Yep long gone are the days when the dog and the kids barked and laughed their heads off in the back as you bounced around the section.

Hi thanks for posting the vid's I enjoyed them very much. The one at Chesterfield is at a place called Holymooreside and our club (P&D) still has trials there and it still looks the same, so perhaps you could have another series trial there but you wouldn't be allowed to drive round with no roof on standing up with a tab going LOL.:)
