thanks 109 party

i assume thats an MOT fail then as the wipers have to work "efficiently".

by the way - when my disco was made into a convertable, the cops said the only reason they wouldnt let me drive it on the public highway was because..

a) it didnt have a windscreen
b) it didnt have seatbelts (they were cut thru by the fire brigade :().

Think you got duff info MHM, seatbelts is correct...however not too sure about the windscreen..if you'd removed the wipers and washers i think you'd have been ok.

You would, however, run the risk of looking a knob.

Er

Firstly it wouldn't be an MOT failure unless when MOT'd it had failed to be efficient with the windscreen up.

Which brings me to the next bit a fold down screen is still there.

Your saying you didn't have a windscreen ;)
And you had seat belts fitted ;)

To get back on topic lol! As long as you have seats fitted in the back, you are legal to carry passengers in the back, as long as you have declared this to your insurance company. If your 109" was built after 1968 then seatbelts will have to be fitted to the rear seats.

It's a bit of an academical question as I really don't think you'll get a 109 to sail anywhere......

.......except straight down:rolleyes::D

When I had my 1974 lightweight it passed test after test with bench seats ni the back with no seatbelts. On the first test I had done the washers didn't work as they had corroded up. The tester fitted some Toyota washer jets but said as the windscreen was removable the washers didn't need to work.

1968 is when the law came in for front seat belts, not back ones. They also had to be retrofitted to any car built since 1965.

The rear seat belt law came much later in 1987 when all new cars had to have them fitted and worn. They did not need fitting retrospectively.
