was changing my front shocks this afternoon and thought while im under there ill grease the uj and prop shaft. took hand break off and put it in neutral and both front wheels span but not the front prop shaft. puzzled as to what has happened. I tried it in drive and reverse but nothing turned. eventually I greased them the way I normally do it. me under the car in access mode and my wife going slowly so I can get to the grease nipples.

try jacking one wheel up box in neutral ,and using a long bar and socket try to turn wheel,it would be stiff to turn unless you had a rear wheel up because of the viscous coupling

The other front wheel would have span in the opposite direction, it's known as a "differential" you'll have one on the rear as well. :D :behindsofa:

The prop wouldnt spin as its attached to the rear prop through the viscous coupling, thats how the 4 wheel drive system works on the P38, you'd need to jack a rear wheel off the ground as well as a front one to spin the props

Correct. :)

thats a good point nickpen never thought of that one I just had thoughts of the viscous coupling being knackered. as for life insurance neither of us have it so im worth more to her alive than dead that's why I trust her :D:D

If i may say so, your proposed method is the stupidest thing i have heard in a long time.

"me under the car in access mode"

If he can get under the car in access mode either he's very very thin or he's done it before and she's already driven over him - several times. :)

Maybe he means wading height . . .
