Hi,

I'm trying to get my alternator belt back on (300Tdi). Searched the forums and found this:
http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/getting-fan-belt-tensioner-wheel-back-97512.html

But hey, it's almost as if they'd be speaking about a different car. The only thing that is right is the size 15 spanner.

"turn anti-clockwise it will pull it up"

Anti-clockwise will undo the tensioner!!!  Clockwise tightens it but before I start tightening, I have to align the lug with the hole at the back of the tensioner. How do I do this?

Thanks!

jamesmartin, thanks, I actually tried that as well (I guess they call it trial and error) but turning anti-clockwise will simply lift the pulley up and the lug will move even further away from the hole. If I turn it clockwise, the lug moves closer to the hole but I just cannot apply enough force to get it into the right position.

Emh... confused. I'm right to think that I put the belt on first and then the tensioner, not the other way round, am I not?

ok, it's beginning to make sense now, only once the lug is in the hole, the pulley won't budge a milimetre no matter how hard I turn it anti-clockwise (and I wouldn't describe myself as a weak guy)... eeh... [scratches head]

tensioner must be seized then it does happen ,ive had to use 3ft ar to shift them to release belt and to retension for a day or 2 while new tensioner came

Yey! Result! Thank you very much! Found an old rusty pipe to stick on the end of the spanner. Will have to take it off again because it squeals even worse after attempting the penny trick.
