Greetings,

My first post was:

"Hi, guys.

Brand new member, brand new Puma (90 hard top). Love this vehicle truly:), madly :p and deeply .

The fact that the rear demister doesn't work and that the door seals aren't properly fitted is just ... charming. However, took brand new car (i.e. week old) on drive to Bournemouth and, about an hour into the journey, the power died away. It did it several times thereafter. It came back reasonably quickly, but not before we had gone down from 55 to 15 mph and ****ed off half of the south of England.

Its pretty clear that the turbo just died away and then came back, eventually.

No changes in the revs, engine temperature, no warning lights. Didn't seem to be linked to any particular speed or gear change or road conditions.

Land Rover Assist came out and found ... nothing wrong.

Did it on the way back, too, so it is real. Obviously going to warranty the **** out of this, but does anyone have any idea what it might be? Have I bought an expensive metal shed that I can't rely on?

Any thoughts from those that know (or might reasonably guess) would be much appreciated.

Many thanks."

To which the response so far has been - take it back and get it sorted. Entirely correct, obviously, but anyone know what might be wrong with it? Don't like the fact that LRA could find nothing wrong.

This is true but its the same problem in the transit... "M6 rush hour, truck stops in the fast lane for no reason" Brown trouser moment trying to coast into the hard shouler, turn it off leave it 5 mins and it re-sets itself and your off again....

Think there is a blanking kit you can get now thou?????

Will look - thanks for the thoughts.

Puma in the drive, Cougar at home and Lynx under the arms. My life as a big pussy hunter.

:welcome2:

I've heard of other PUMA owners with similar type problems in the past, although I think it was more when the engine was under greater strain..e.g towing.

Common themes seemed to be .....

New ECU software update required (would be surprised if this the case if yours is brand spanking new, you'd expect the ECU to have all the latest updates as part of the PDI)

Dodgy MAF (Mass Air flow) sensor... sending incorrect readings to ECU

Turbo overboost (either sticking vanes or crack in turbo) which triggers ECU to put the engine into limp home mode

EGR valve (as Cowshed already mentioned)

As others have said, you've paid for the warranty... fling it back at the dealer and get them to sort to your complete satisfaction or ask for another one :)

my 09 plate 110 did the same at about a month old, but the engine management light came on.
ecu software update cured that - no problems since.

I think the garage has 3 attempts to correct the fault then its new car time. Ask them to fit a 19j mine has done 111k and dosent stop in the fast lane( dosent know what that is though)

Thanks guys. Dealers best guess - thermostat. We shall see today, I think. My understanding is that they get three chances, too. I will certainly be sending them a letter putting them on notice of rejection.

Given the brief time I have had to play, I got just a glimpse of how capable these vehicles are. What a shame that LR is trading off their reputation, rather than building cars that actually work!

The dealer will have done more miles then I will, FFS!!

Mine did this, software update sorted the problem, try this first. If it doesn't solve try egr valve, maf sensor
But the software upgrade did mine fine :)
