Has anyone tried running without a Tstat on the 1.8? My housing cracked so I ordered a new one. I hadn't seen the upgrade kit before I ordered the part.

My question is this, Has anyone tried running this motor open? With No Tstat in the housing? It is very hot here all year round, never under 20C.

Ideas?

That is the modification.

The Tstat at the back of the engine that slots between the water pump and the full metal coolant pipe, it was meant to be opened up and a blanking plate inserted inside it where the old stat used to be.

Then swap the front coolant hoses to the modified one with the thermostat in. It chases the point at which the thermostat is in the coolant system and reduces the opening temperature by 4degrees.

Lots of information on it on this forum if you search,
