Winter is upon us….. I have now commenced the restoration of my 109” Stage 1 project....:D

Not as bad i first thought.

Chassis has surface rust…..but upon closer inspection seems pretty sound.
Rear cross member area and fuel tank are the worst but I reckon they will clean up with grinder wheel brush and some rust treatment.
Apart from the LHS outrigger which has been patched badly and will need replacement.

The footwells have been installed a bit poorly but the metal is still sound, maybe able get away with a cleanup and rust treatment.

Door are completely shot but i have some replacements already lined up.

Engine was out and gearbox had a leak when I purchased.
Fixed the gearbox leak and put it back together with the bell housing.

The engine has been bench tested and seems to run okay so far although won’t know for sure until under load.
Also fitted the new clutch.
The manifolds are missing…I have one from a Range Rover Classic but that fouls the chassis.

Next job is clean up the chassis and get ready for painting….joy of joys. :scratching_chin:
You will have to excuse some of the later pics....forgot my camera and resorted to the phone...which is a bit rubbish at pics.

Now its warming up i am starting the project off again

Been restoring bits which i will get some pics sorted and upload

Topic is Chassis painting/protection

im confused... (which is not hard)

The more i read the harder decision its turning out to be.

Not doing a full nut and bolt strip as the rear tub is still on. So a galvanised chassis is out of the question

i have taken the seats and floors out, also the engine is out. The fuel tank is out cos it had rusted and was leaking.

So most of the frame is exposed which i am wire brushing and cleaning up. Finding a few holes which need patching, rear is the worst.
needs a nearside out rigger (which has been patched before badly and has made it worse)

When i have finished the cleanup. Now do i....?

Use the POR15 method or even Eastwood rust encapsulator

I have watched many YouTube videos and it seems the Eastwood comes out better as it doesnt rely on the prep so much.

or

Clean up with FERTAN rust convertor or VACTAN rust convertor
Then paint with redoxide and paint with Heavy duty paint (Require some recomendations)

After all is finished then Waxoyl

Your advice and tips would be most appricated.
