Problems all ready

Just picked up our 03 reg TD4Freelander and there are amber warning lights showing all ready that didn't appear during the test drive. The hill decent symbol and traction control symbol have been coming on during driving the car home from the dealers. The handbook says contact your landrover dealership, we contacted the dealer where we bought the car who suggested going to local landrover specialist which we have done and they are going to stick the car on their computer, is this is a common problem on freelanders if so what the worst it could be, not a good start

i hope the dealer you bought the car off is paying for the trip to the specialist for ya.

The dealer has said he'll be in contact with the specialist landrover dealer, we'll just have to wait and see, thanks for the advice if it weren't for the fact we just bought the car I would have had a go at resolving the problem myself, is there any other niggling problems I can expect?
Its a shame about this issue as I was quite impressed with the car

You forgot to mention MAF, EGR, injectors, Intercooler hoses, LP pump, crankcase breather, turbo, injector harness, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, dual mass flywheel, clutch hydraulics, wishbone balljoints, drop links, bushes, antirollbar movement side-side, sticking handbrake, snapped window mechanism, rear door window, water in rear cubby hole

Today I read of a Belgian guy who came, in my opinion, with the solution to these breaking wires on the always moving switch on the manual gearstick. He said he's going to buy a new switch to be built in on the dashboard, disconnect the two wires from the gearknob switch and pull out the two wires and fix them on the non-moving new switch in the dashboard. And problem of broken wires/connectors due to the always moving gearstick are over forever.

The same happened to mine not long after I had bought it earlier this year.

The HDC and TC lights coming on are indicative of a faulty brake light switch.
The old type switches have a tendency to stick as they wear, under a tenner for a new switch and a two minute job to change it.

It was the brake light switch, the dealer who I got the car from has agreed to pay for the switch and diagnostic check. As for the other things to look out for, I wish I hadn't asked, are they really that bad?

No, no, no...

























They're far worse than you could possibly imagine.

If you call known faults along the length of the Drive-train and the engine performing magic stop-start tricks not that bad; then no. Nothing to worry about at all.

Glad you had a simple fix. Now stop reading the forum or take much here with a big pinch o salt. FL's are not so bad, theres thousands of them rattling around and I suspect they will be for years to come. I likes mine and mines the DREADED PETROL version!
