have been messing around over months with a few tank fill ups

comparing between

premium diesel

millars cleaner with normal diesel

don't know if it's just me but prefer using the premium diesel for my td4 , not so much smoke , get around 2-3 increased mpg , starts easier , in traffic smooth tick over at 850rpm with the ac on

wondering if it's just me and physiology thinking it runs better

does anyone else run there's on this premium diesel and feeling any difference with tickover, startup , mpg increase, , please

thks again for the help as always

Must admit filled up my car for the trip down south with asda diesel got down there on just under 3/4 tank not bad me thought ( lead foot some of the way ), filled up again with Shell diesel got back up here on half a tank ??????? same speeds coming back if not a little quicker ,so i like the premium diesel

I put Shell, or BP premium diesel in my defender TD5 when i can and it is not my imagination it runs better and give a slight mpg increase.
In the FL2 I have not had chance to make a fair comparison yet but on a recent trip to Scotland managed 40.2 mpg over 230 mls driving quite steady which I think is great for an automatic.it's a real eye opener to see the improvement as you drive the last bit of the A1 near Scots corner where there is an enforced 50 limit.

thks, so it's not just me then , lol

didn't notice it straight away as I then wondered was it the millers working , but then swapped back to ordinary diesel without millers , engine was slightly lumpy again and wasn't as smooth on a run

often found a flat spot at 50mph , but using the prem is Improved

noticed it the most going through country lanes, with many bends, hills etc and how much smoother is was

do have a synergy fitted , left it on the same settings so not to affect the results,

know it's not a very scientific test but nice getting other people's opinions

if I remember basic diesel was 1.09 per litre ,
advance was 1.19 per litre

thks appreciate the feedback

on prem I get 44mpg , 41 ish with non prem

that's on a steady run at 64 mph , cruise control on , yeh I know I need to get out more, lol

my TD4 is an auto, got just under 180,000 miles on the clock , tyres at 32psi all round unladen, with synergy switch set to economy ,

what do u get out of ur TD5 as a curiosity plse

Don't get the mpg with supermarket derv, so always a last resort!

must admit , I'm the same and won't use the supermarket fuel, unless it was an emergency

put me off when they accidentely filled up the wrong pumps and cost thousands of pounds in damage

Cruise isn't great for economy on my car. The engine use's all its power to maintain a set speed where as I'd be happy to manually cruise at + or -5mph around my chosen speed.

thks , I will try that with the cruise off and see what mpg I get

suppose my train of thought was being able to keep it at a steady constant speed , is a pain though when ur on the motorway and can tell that ur slowly creeping up on the car in front

thinking speed up , speed up, .lol

I think a humans steady speed is better than a machines cos you can read the land for hills etc. My cruise accelerates hard to get back up to speed if it slows down for any reason.

I like the Shell V power nitro. Usually fill up with a couple of tank fills every few months. Smoother engine running and improved mpg.

V Power for me too. It definitely makes the engine smoother in operation, quieter too. It not just the TD4 that prefers V Power as my D3s TDV6 ran beautifully on it too. They run so well on V Power that if I had to regular supermarket stuff in, the drop in performance and refinement was instantly noticeable.

In the TD5 I get high twenties to be honest I don't often go very far in it I just gesstimate the consumption, its more of a Hoby vehicle, but I've recently rebuilt a discovery transfer box and intend to fit it to take advantage of the higher ratio

I drive an Iveco Daily for work, I have two fuel cards, a bunker fuel card, as low as £1 per litre, and the other card is for shell or BP, can't use the advanced stuff, but I have had the vehicle for about two weeks now, and been comparing when I use bunker fuel or the other card.

I am sure the engine runs better on BP or shell, and lumpy on bunker fuel, more miles between fill ups as well.

Interesting replies I may try a tank of advanced, then BP then supermarket in my Fl1.

I tend to use BP due to the nectar points, my Mrs appreciates it! I often spend over £100 a day for the company vehicle.

I'm averaging just over 60mog in me non landy currently. Might stick a tank of premium dezul in there this week to see what that does to the figure.

Standard texaco with 50ml of Millers Every time. Been using this mix for at least 6 years, swear by it :)

Currently averaging 36mpg, without the Synergy on. That's not bad for round here with all the hills.

Tick over 750rpm with or without aircon.
My car does not smoke ever! If it does, it means somethings broke

that's what I always done with regards to the millers but then sometimes forgot , lol

tried the advanced to just see if it was just a sales trick , found it most effective in the winter time as I belive they out a special anti wax in the advance system

think that's pretty good with the synergy off, have u also got the switch inside the car, I got it on two settings , power and economy , number 2 on the box as any higher it seemed to upset my auto box

now nearly at 180,000 miles and like everyone else like to look after it the best I can ,

cheers for the great response, nice to know I'm not going loopy with regards to the improvement of using the advance diesel

when I first used it found it started to smoke a little bit for a few tank fills, then cleared up after I gave it a good boot ful , maybe that's the advance fuel additives working and getting rid of the junk

imagine if using the advanced and also adding the millers wouldn't do the engine much good by raising the octane that much , or would it clean out the injectors quicker

sorry asking a dim question
