I had a minor reversing accident a while back and damaged my disco 2. Nothing serious, so I went through the insurance to get it repaired.
First of all, I had to wait two weeks for their ‘approved’ garage to collect the car for repairs, then it all went quiet for a week. Then I was contacted and informed they couldn’t source a new bumper??? After a bit of arguing on the phone, they texted me the next day and said they’d now got a bumper and would start the repair.

Then nothing for another 10 days, when they contacted me to tell me they’d be starting the repair soon! More arguing on the phone resulted in the repair being started the next day. Two days after that, I got a phone call saying they’d found more damage once they removed the bumper and would have to submit another estimate to my insurance company.

Yesterday, I got a phone call from my insurance company saying they have decided my car is a total loss, as it’s uneconomical to repair! Unbelievable! So, over 5 weeks have passed since my little mishap and I’m back to square one. I’m getting my car back on Monday and will now face the aggro of agreeing a price to retain the car and arranging my own repair. What’s the point in having bloody insurance?

And why do they fit land rovers with plastic bumpers now? My old disco 1 wouldn’t have had a mark on it after the same sort of gentle impact.

Hardly "unbelievable". More, as is to be expected. Any vehicle of that age is unlikely to be repaired if panels and/or paint is required. 40% of not a lot ..... Ain't much! :)
