Good Day All,

My TD4 Freelander 1 has an intermittent starting problem, the problem is sometimes when I switch on the ignition the cooling fans come on at high speed, the vehicle can be cold when this happens and when this happens the vehicle will not start, the work around is to switch off the ignition and switch it back on, if you don't get the cooling fans coming on the vehicle will now start. Has anyone encountered this problem or know what might be causing this problem.

Yes, suspect ignition switch. Mine will blast the fans if I turn the ignition on then off again. Sounds like the switch is intermittent. It is connecting, breaking, fans come on and nowt else gets power so won't start. Just a theory!!!

Hi thanks for the replies, but the engine is turning over and I have electrical power. it will turn over but just will not start.

The ignition switch is the place to start. There are multiple sets of contacts in the switch, one of which might be failing. The switch is cheap and easy enough to change, as a matter of course.

Thanks will start trouble shooting with the switch.
