I went to replace the pollen filters on the newly aquired 4.6HSE yesterday.

Good grief, I didn't believe the amount of crud in there, it was jam packed between the filter and the inlet, leaves, twigs, grass, a veritable compost heap.

I couldn't get the filters out without dropping stuff into the ducting below, so then had to spend half an hour with the vacume and a modified tube to clear them back out.

For the sake of a couple of quid - replace your pollen filter regularly when you service the old girls, and if you get it serviced by a garage, just check, it is only two screws....

is the grill foams missing on the centre trim of the screen too no protection then in comes the trees lol

Hi Magictiny

Found the same thing with the pollen filters and went on to replace that foam too (much of which had managed to disintegrate into the fans).
I heard tell that garden centres sell a simlar type of foam for pond filters, but guess what? I went to the main stealers (love that term) and it didn't cost much at all! £4.75 plus vat, part number LRBTR9548 and you can get new clips as well (only 16p each - LRBTR9549). Bit of a shock cost-wise, but still not inclined to push my luck and go again.

Ohh wow - that has got to be worth it - just out of interest, how many clips did you need?

I've looked at the receipt (having framed it as my cheapest likely visit ever) and I only bought a couple of clips. I can't remember how many there are altogether, but the originals can be re-used. It just depends whether some have disappeared in the meantime - with no foam left to clip.

These clips hold a wire form that retains the foam. I think it couild do with a far more generous piece of foam (as it doesn't stretch to the vertical vents either side of the central ones), but you have to be grateful for what you get at this price I suppose.

Guess what also? I've just had another look at mine and under a year later (July 2009) the damn stuff's beginning to deteriorate again! Perhaps research for an alternative is overdue
