I must be stupid, not please correct this, I AM but I do not understand what it is written in the manual. My problem is in the "Bold" text

The mirror memory has a pre-stored function which causes the mirrors to dip automatically whenever reverse gear is selected. If necessary the ’dipped’ mirror positions can be altered as follows:

1. Turn the starter switch to position ’I’ or ’II’ (do not start the engine).
2. Select reverse gear.
3. Adjust either or both mirrors to the desired positions.
4. Press the seat MEMORYSTORE switch together with either switch 1 or 2 (whichever corresponds with the driver’s seat memory) for 2 seconds (the message centre displays ’MIRROR DIP STORE’).

NOTE: The right-hand exterior driving mirror is convex and objects in this mirror are closer than they appear.

Desired positions, what do they mean? The position when reversing or when driving?

You see Dipping works on my car... When I reverse they dip, but when I drive back forward they do not get back to their previous and normal setting (Before I reverse) which is EXTREMELY irritating!

It could be ALSO possible that the thingy inside both mirror are "tired" but they both work flawlessly I can easily control them with ease.

Any thoughts? Thanks

PS Until I solve this I disabled the dip function but I kind a like it.

It means you move the mirrors to your REVERSE position....

Ok, then I have a problem. I tried (will try again this week end just in case) what they said, but when I move forward the mirrors come back to a "driving" mode but not completely, well not like they were set before reverse.

Any one had this problem before?

Cheers

I believe that is most likely due to tired internals.....if you press the mirror glass, does it wobble a bit?? if so, the linkages inside are loose so the Mirror won't return fully to its previous position....have you tried repressing the Memory position and see if the mirror fully returns to the initial position or if it doesn't move further!?

Don't remember... maybe

Have you tried repressing the Memory position and see if the mirror fully returns to the initial position or if it doesn't move further!?

Will check and let you know!

Thanks!

My n/s mirror does the same - not loose and always returns to same position - exactly. However this position is not the one stored with the seat preset which I have reset a number of times just to be certain! I've concluded that like me, the car is getting on in years and suffering amnesia...

There must be a simple explanation on why so many p38s suffer amnesia... After all this is the only left gremlin in my car so far and I want it gone... !!

Its a common problem ive had 3 p38s now and not had 1 that the revese dip works
Just turn them off and forget about them its easyer

It's what I have done so far... But I am just not normal I like things working like they should be...

So the internals are indeed tired, while there are no wobbling when using them, I can count at least a 2 to 3 sec lag between the moment I hear the electric motors working their magic before anything move.

I am sure that trying to fix this will be a pure waist or money, so I am going to keep having the Dipping mode turned off.

Thanks
