Please help

Hi everyone, i have a disco 1 300 tdi auto i have just pulled down my drive & as i was turning to go out onto the road i heard quite a large bang & as loss of drive in forward gears. However i have reverse so i could reverse it back up the drive, i was thinking i might have snapped a drive shaft but i don't understand why i can still use reverse. Any comments welcome

sounds to me like the cv joint. The reason it will go backwards is probably because the cv gets jammed when going backwards so drive is given to the other side. you could put it in diff lock but i wouldnt recomend driving it as i once had one go and it locked the steering solid

Gonna have to jack it up and see which axle/wheel feels funny!

Hi thanks for both of your replies, when i jack it up what will i be looking for. I have a 300 tdi manual does anyone think i will be able to fit any parts off that

everything is same on manual or auto apart from injection system on some models and gearbox basically.

axles are identical unless either car has abs then there are differences

basically for starters jack each corner individually and spin the wheel back and forward feeling/listening for something broken/noisy/jammed
