Hey guys,

After the trip to Bell Engineering, a set of new tyres is the first thing on my shopping list. No point in replacing the VCU until I do. My budget is about £100 per tyre, and I've been looking at the known brands as I don't want to skimp too much on them.

I've seen the Scorpion mentioned here a few times during searches. The STR215/65 R16 98H looks great and they can be had for around £90 each on average. So, how do they measure up? Could I do better with the money? I've looked around here but it would be nice to have the opinions of people who have used them.

So it sounds like they are pretty good. ATS gives them a really good safety score too. Cheers for the warning munky - I'm trying not to cut any corners with this so when they need renewing I'll do it. I didn't get this car expecting low running costs ;).

before i put the new ones on the old Scorpions had about 3mm and never slipped at all on wet roads, like you say it must be the Discos greater weight.
 
My experience with Scorpions are that they wear out too quickly and are no where near as good as a Michelin.
Have recently fitted the new style General Grabber AT to my Disco2 and I honestly cant fault them on or off road, wet or dry - definitely one to consider ;)
 
I had scorpion MUDs a while ago and tried BFg ats as well but now using toyo open.country mud and have been really impressed on and off road with them. £115 a wheel from black circles

it were the noise i was thinking about, if they've sorted it out fair play ;)
 
Could the Scorpions wear out quicker because of the extra weight of the disco? Size differences can make big diferences, it sometimes seems.
 
I had them and was very disappointed.
Car suffered from a droning noise which couldn't be pinpointed front or rear. As you can imagine I tried a lot of things to try and locate it .
Fortunatly a puncture occured and when the tyre was removed we discovered a considerable amount of loose tyre material that had detached itself from the internal surface of the tyre leaving the surface rough and easily abraded. The other three wheels were taken off and the tyres detached to find three in total were suffering the same problem.
This was causing the droning and after examining the tyres and finding light cracking on the treads I replaced them immediatly even though they had only done 9K miles.
I replaced them firstly with Yokohama Geolanders and after 35K miles Kumho's because the Yoko's were unavailable at the time.
Both these branda have ,and ,are performing very well with excellent road noise and grip characteristics.

checked mine for this today, no sign of this on any of them (thank fook) must've been a bad batch.
 
I have found some for £85 a corner fully fitted. I am torn between these, BF Goodrich Long Trail at £108 a corner or Goodyear Wrangler HP for £98.
 
The Scorpions work well on my wifes VW Tiguan!! Tones of grip in the wet and dry!! It's not a FL but the suspension and weight is closer to a FL than a Disco!!
