I've just dropped in a 2litre turbo diesel unit from a Montego, using the following configuration:
Home made conversion plate using Sherpa backplate and M10 bolts
Sherpa Starter
Sherpa Flywheel
The vehicle is still a few weekends' work away from running, and I'm going bananas thinking of all the things which I may have botched up. Firstly, the offset between engine block and bellhousing is 54mm. This is significantly less than that recommended on a certain website I visited, but seemed to fit a lot better this way. Secondly, I have used the original thrust bearing from the 2a gearbox. The clutch is half Land Rover, half Sherpa. Will it work? (I am yet to re-connect the props and clutch slave cylinder. If anyone could set my mind at ease, I would be very grateful.
