hi
we have an N reg p38 and it now does not like starting in the morning . The battery does not seem to have enough power, although it is a new one! It will start with a jump though. This has only started since we have had the rain recently - is it connected? I am at a loss as we have now had new FIP, in tank pump, glowplugs, sensors and a lot more and i am now thinking of scapping it.
any help is much appreciated!

Where do you live? how much?

If it starts with jump leads connections to earth and starter motor want checking as does starter
or
sounds like you have something draining the Battery- wireless rf receiver are common issue or bcem fault

Weve just had a jcb with same problem took 6 months and 8 new batteries to find out it was the earth to the starter motor was to complicated with to many connections had caused the celanoyd on the starter motor to crack and melt so we got the celanoyd refurbed and the wiring redone now it fires up no probs might be worth checking before you scrap it

First I would get your battery tested - "new" batteries can be faulty. I tested mine last after all the usual suspects - duff battery all along, 6 weeks old

New batteries are sometimes duff get it shut tested it may have a duff cell. I have just had a 115 amp new battery that lasted three weeks before it lost a cell.

What size battery do you have on it? Check the earths especially the negatine battery terminal. When i changed battery on mine found the clamp didnt tighten up too well so i put new one on and was ok. If only happens after its rained check window seals. I.e. tailgate and rear quarter windows as could be allowing water in.
But if you want shot give me a pm. I want another.

I agree with the others, sounds like a duff battery, you can prety much rule out connections and cables as it starts with a jump. Get yourself a 135AH 1000CCA Alphaline from Battery Megastore.

Had same prob and this was the battery I got and from the same place . All working great now and starts up really quick

If there is a bad connection on a terminal post it will start with jump leads .worth cleaning both terminals and trying.do both posts and terminals.

If the solenoid drops in and makes contact and there was a bad connection on the terminal posts, the dash lighs would dim. There are not doing, that means the solenoid contact strip is NOT connecting with the starter contacts.

Nothing has been mentioned about dash lights dimming or not dimming:confused::confused:
