Hello, I have a P38 without Satellite navigation. Is there anyway for to fit the Sat Nav system that would have been fitted to a P38 as standard to my vehicle? If so does anybody know of suppliers etc?
The only complaint I have is obtaining updates, does anybody have any information were updates can be obtained
It might be cheaper to buy the Siemens VDO MS4400 Satellite Navigation /CD MP3 Player on eBay at £501 Inc P&P delivery.
At £119 for just UK & Ireland update discs is steep in my book and you still need to update every other year to keep it up to date. But it still doesnt get away from the fact that the Official LR Sat Nav is poor....and certainly not worth the money nowadays.
argh, stop bashing everything!!
people may like to keep the vehicle in its original state (or as close to as possible). this includes not wanting to swap the radio fot the latest flashy colour one with bluetooth hands free capability (when you can actually use a kit to integrate the original head unit with any car kit you wish to) or changing it out for some hideous fold out screen sat nav thing.
Secondly the LR sat nav isnt poor. if it is poor, WHY is it poor?? like most things it takes getting used to as Steve said. From what ive seen of it it works just as well as any other sat nav and I wouldnt mind having it in my P38 even if i did loose that really useful little area above the radio to store 'stuff'.
Also why do you want to be like all the other mindless drivers going along with the blasted things stuck to their windscreens, its just so common these days, its nice to be different and have it factory intergrated.
Hi People,
I have a 2002 Westminster fitted with Sat Nav as standard, I do 50K miles a year, the sat nav when you become experienced with it is easy to use, it depends on how often each driver has a need to use it. The only complaint I have is obtaining updates, does anybody have any information were updates can be obtained, Regards Steve
Hi, I have a few complete systems for the P38 and they come with 2008 discs.
The original discs stopped being made in 2002 but there are other manufactures whos discs you can use.
A retro install can be done without too much hassle and any good car audio garage can do an install in about 3 hours.
These systems are great, they work well both on road on off. A TOM TOM may be better but then these fit snuggly into your dash and make the look of your interior that much better.
Anyone interested in a complete system please contact me.
Nokia 95 with Tom-Tom is far the better option, please note that the current software does not support the internal GPS in the phone at the moment. Not sure when this will be out but you should be able to check online at tomtom.com The N95 works well with a Bluetooth GPS receiver. Cheers Faz
I've got an N95 8gb and use TomTom - awesome system, totally portable... Got a Bluetooth HandsFree kit too so it mutes the stereo to give directions... (also lets you watch movies on the phone and hear them through the car speakers too...)
Incidentally, there is a small application that you can install alongside TomTom on your N95 that fools the software that the internal GPS is an external Bluetooth one - so it works perfectly without the need to add any other gubbins...
nearly £500 quid, **** that, i like my fag storage!!!! and sat nav isnt that good, i like getting lost, i love guessing. if it can play video tho its worth it.
