Gidday,
Back again with a new problem. Driving home the other day and the range started making a hell of a noise. I checked it out on the hoist and discovered a few bits and pieces in the bell housing. From what i can see it looks like the Flexy plate (drive plate) has given up the ghost. I have been in touch with the main stealers and apparently the part is no longer available, so i rang around the handful of Land Rover wreckers in NZ and they wished me good luck. I haven't pulled the transmission yet, but intend to in the next couple of weeks, just to make sure there is no other damage. Is this a common problem and if so, is there likely to be other damage? Are Flexy (Drive) plates still available in the UK?
Thanks Spadgr

Look up part number on other sites. https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-TME000010

On a ramp with all the gear, drop box back and replace drive plate and refit, about a mornings or a tad mores work. On your back with happy amateur tools a couple of days.

The idea of pulling the trans back and slotting in the drive plate is appealing but i have got to order the drive plate from the UK so i will pull out the trans and make sure there is no other damage before i go ahead as if there is other damage i may as well get all the parts at once. Is it much of a job to seperate the transfer box from the trans? I have had a drone that i have been putting up with for the last 12 months and i think it is probably from the rear transfer box output shaft so it might be a good opportunity to replace the bearing.

Spitting the gearbox and transfer box is straight forward just like undoing a bell housing, have you downloaded the workshop manual Rave yet, if not its in the technical archive top left of range rover home page ,posted by wazzerjnr.

That sounds a good plan. One easy weekend getting it apart allowing for the inevitable seized bolts and unseen issues. Order the parts and then another weekend to reassemble.

Definitely need RAVE. I do anyway.

Drone - assuming the wife and kids are not in the car, could be the diff? All fluids changed?

Sounds like a good deal to me. I tried to access Rave from wazzers drop box, but it won't run on my pc. Probably cos its a mac. Im happy to get a copy from Datatek at whatever cost. Plan is to pull transmission on wednesday night after work. Please send details Datatek and i will arrange the payment for Rave

I think you can run the Mac in Windows emulation or something. Failing that there is a searchable PDF version. Actually, I think one of the versions I had had a MacOS folder but that was on my old (bust) laptop.

The version I have will not run on CrApple.

Ok, so downloaded Rave, but not fully opened yet, i will have to get my son to find a free version of Adobe Acrobat DC for me. Pulled the trans tonight, 2 hours and 15 minutes with a little help from Milwaukee and a bit of swearing. Drive plate is rooted, some damage to torque convertor, but i may be able to get rebuilt, and the starter/ring gear plate is bent in a couple of places from debris flying around in the bell housing. I will get a mate to run the starter/ ring gear plate up on a lathe to see what the run out is like and i will take the torque convertor to an auto specialist and have it checked.

If ring gear plate is warped you need to be looking at position pins on it and condition of CPS. If CPS is damaged just take it off it's bracket. DO NOT remove the bracket.
