I have just finished rebuilding my 1964 Series 2a 109 and have booked it in for an MOT. The tester told me I need to have the V5 as it may not be on the system as the vehicle has been off the road for years.

I have found the V5 but notice the revenue weight is 3499kg. I thought that this was a bit much and looked it up and discovered that this would also mean a different class of MOT.

The MOT tester has tested the vehicle before but it was about six years ago and I dont know if the rules have changed since then.

It looks like I need to have this information changed but am not sure if the DVLA will accept my word for it, as anyone could then change their vehicle weights. If I need proof what could I provide the DVLA with?

Thanks For Your Help!

The stated revenue weight is just stating that it's less than 3.5 tons. A 109 weighs appox 1800kgs.

I have the same on mine and it did confuse the tester slightly but after consulting his books he was happy to pass it. If he has a modern set of rollers he could even weigh it for you

I think he wanted the V5 because he was concerned the vehicle had been off the road for years and might not be on the computerised system. I think he wanted the V5 should he have to enter the details and not be able to find the numbers on the vehicle, which he has not seen yet.

What is the weight I should provide the DVLA with? and will they want proof of that?

The reason I sent mine off to be amended was after reading info from Glencoyne.
Site seems to be down at the moment, but from memory it said that some Land Rover series had incorrect weight recorded on log books and this could possibly cause a problem when MOT tester connected to DVLA computer.
Lots of other good info on site hope it comes back online.

Cause problems with mine when he was punching in details but he just over-rode it......taking it again in a week of two, I'll ask for details

None of the other details apart from the vin number are needed for the Mot. I have taken cars land rovers etc that have been off of the road for 15 years plus and all they do is look at the vin number and type it into their system.

I dont know why he's pestering you for other details as its no concern to him at all.

Btw im not just having a go. I worked in a Mot station for 2.5 years.

Not sure why he needed your V5.

In this part of the world every other vehicle is a Defender and a lot with dodgy tax exempt number plates! I think he has probably come across a lot of Landys with no trace of a vin number and just asks to be on the safe side!

If he does do the MOT without worrying about the weight I dont think he will be impressed with the ignition light that is now on all the time!

Just to let everyone know how it went, I didnt mention the weight issue to the MOT tester and he tested it without ever mentioning it. For a vehicle that has rotting in a field for years and now refurbished I was happy with only a little bit of welding and one binding brake to deal with.
