Getting a tan in Q8
Good afternoon all,

I am here with more questions. Were there many types of overdrive units? I have this one below and am trying to identify it so I can get parts for it, namely shims and bearings. I have a pdf version of the Fairey Overdrive unit. Internally the shafts and shims are all in the same order as mine but I have no idea if they are the same size. I am also looking for clearances for when I put it back together. I have about 1mm of in and out play on the main gear that connects to the transmission. That seems a bit excessive to me. Thanks again for all the help.

I can't help much with the specifications but I've just done a quick search and come up with this website that sells spares for the Fairey overdrive I don't know if it's of use to you or not

If anybody needs the pdf version fairey overdrive unit I'd be happy to email it to you if you PM me your email address.

doesn't look like the fairey I removed from the series

You're right, the oil fillers in a different place and its got 2 bolts too many on the inspection cover (Fairey has 4).

Did Santana make their own overdrive units? Just a thought as the OP is in Spain

Thanks for the info. I think I might gamble and try buying one of the shim kits to see if they fit my overdrive. The parts I have found look the same in the pictures but I can't compare the sizes with pictures. Thanks again

Hello folks,

Another question for this old thread. It took me a trip back to the States to find some shims that would fit (Fairey parts don't work). Now that I have shims I am trying to figure out some kind of specs. I have the Fairey manual and the Bearmach Toro manual but neither of these show tolerances where shims are required. All say shim as required. I have everthing currently set to where my axial play is 0.00-0.001. This is tighter than when I pulled it down but some of the shims that were in it were mashed pretty bad. Do you think I am on the right track? Cheers
