I want to add some wind deflectors to my TD4.

Those of you that have done this what are the pro's and cons of the two types that exist?

Stick on and clip on.

From what I have read so far, I get the impression that stick on ones are better because they don't interfere with the movement of the windows.

I've got stick on one's, no probs with them. Been on 2 years.........had the clip on one's on my Type R, they were a right pain in the arse. :)

I had the same ones, on my Type R too lol, dont bother, they fall off, never tried stick on ones but sound better

I have the stick on ones and they are great would not go for the clip on ones .just make sure you wipe the door where they are going to fit with a cleaner ,in fact I got some in the package. you can have the window open slightly when it is raining without the need for the demister on,

I got the clip into the window channel type. They do what they are supposed to do. They don't move or fall off. They are easy to removed should i change cars.
They also look nicer once fitted.

Hmm, the clip in window channel ones do look better in my opinion, but I have read some bad things about them such as damaging the window cable.

i've the clip-in ClimAir ones .. and ..
now and again spray or wipe a bit of 'silicon grease with ptfe' ( spray can from maplin )
inside the cavity between the deflector and window ..

i did used to wipe some RainX in there .. as after testing on a glass bottle ..
seemed to provide good lubrication on glass

i use the 'silicon grease with ptfe' as i use that on all the rubber body seals
seals on doors .. and the rubber seal between the front and rear roof panels
and rubber seals on the sunroof panels ..
i did some military time in the 'signals corps' .. and we used silicon grease
to preserve all the leads and cables for the various bits of mobile communication systems ..
made 'em look shiny as well which pleased the inspecting brass when they paid a visit :)

anyhow .. it seems to work for where the hippo window and wind deflectors meet ..
figured it would be less stress on the window cables ..

I do have a can of silicon grease with ptfe. I also use it on rubber seals, although I have not thought of using it on my Landy seals but will do so now. :)

I don't see how the clip in type I've got can damage the window cable? The windows don't touch the deflectors at all.
I've got these

I don't either but I have seen several claims that they have done so.
Perhaps the cables were already weak from rust before they were attached???

I can see the deflectors catching the windows if the clips aren't fitted but with the clips in place there no way they catch.

i don't quite understand .. the 'no touch' bit

with mine the part that clips into the window channel is the full length of the deflector
so the window top and front .. will rub/slide against the part that's 'clipped-in'

maybe the two are designed different as far as 'clipping in' is concerned
( have not looked at the 'heko' type on-line )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
sidenote: am off to take my new pup for a drive and walk
adopted a rescued / stray dog last friday .. have gradually been introducing her to the 'hippo' :)
as .. at first she seemed frightened of it .. maybe she associated it .. with going to the dog pound .. or something
she be a little bit more relaxed now .. in the hippo .. after 2 hour long trips ..
she be a young .. very well behaved .. uber affectionate and friendly Staffie
The Heko deflectors slip into the window channel where the glass fits. Simply using them like this although possible, would interfere with the glass. The Heko deflectors also come with some U shaped clips, these clips are pushed up into the slot where the window will go. The clip pushes the deflector away from the glass giving it an uninhabited movement to the fully closed position.
What he said!
I have a heko set on my 5 door, no problems whatsoever.
They look a million times better than the clumsy looking stick on ones i've seen on some hippo's.
Just recently bought my freelander that has Heko (in channel ones) fitted. Cant see a problem with them nice tight fit. I bought Climair ones for a previous vehicle which fitted the same way and were top notch if a little expensive.
