Hi all,

I've just out on the drive way tinkering (2001 TD4 ES Auto). I intended to disconnect the MAF but could not get the dambed connetor off, it looks like there is a click each side, but i can't release it. Has any one got hint?

So here goes :

1. Pulled out the turbo exit filter, tried to blow through it and couldn't defo blcoked up solid. Left it off. Car now likes to rev right up to 4,500 before changing up, hopefully no more labouring on hills :) - Hopefully Solved

2. Unclipped the turbo to MAF pipe and cleaned the layer of crap off the MAF with kitchen roll laced in card cleaner. Still have the pause when settings off. Could not disconnect the MAF cable connector. Suspect MAF is fubar

3. Noriced that holding the engine revs at about 1250rpm, the engine hunts up and down about 200rpm each way, but will not hold one speed. This is the range where it runs lumpy and lacks power. Suspect dodgy injectors.

I should try and clean the MAP sensor, EGR value inlet manifold out but didn;t have time today.

Cheer

Dave

On the second outing, the pause when setting off appears to have gone and gear changes are smooth. Strange.

Try putting Millers Diesel additive injector cleaner through it - Halfords £12 ish don't be tempted by other brands many on this site swear by Millers inc me.

it usually runs on shell normal diesel as that the cheapest to be had, it some times get some supermarket stuff but not often.

I have been looking for some millers all day, but no one has it, will have to take a trip to halfords.

how does the maf disconnect?

And is there a name for those 5 point torx type screws with the bit the middle, that hold the maf in?

Thanks

The MAF has a simple plug on it - press the clip and pull it off if I remember. The screws are an odd size - I got a good Mole grips and managed to grip it to the screw heads and gently they turned. I replaced them with self tapping screws do no problem from now on.

I seem to remember there are different types of these and some don't fit - certainly the ones I had didn't but fit all other tamper proof bolts I have used them one - different numbers of sides think - put a call out its on here somewhere - on my phone at moment do too fiddly to search.

That's guys, the connector looks like it has a clip on either side, I couldn't get them to release.

the infernal car won't even start now :'(
