ok firstly im a total newb to forums so a big hello to everyone :).
next up i dont have the most favorable landys (3 discos) but b4 you all rip it out of me im nearly 7ft tall so defender or rangie just wont cut it.:)

right down to business i went away on holiday and 2nd day away the wife rings up and tells me the oil leak on my 1995 300tdi finally got the better of her and the engine seized  so i let her borrow my 1996 V8:eek: so now im home i looked over the oil burner and where the plastic pipe meets the metal pipe had snapped off at the pump. so £25 got the injector return pipe assembly and bolted the new bits to the injectors and injection pump connected the return to the tank and fired it up but it took ages then went no nasty noises or blue smoke out the back and then it stopped but fired up straight away i revved it took it for a spin down the lane and then nothing on the throttle for 2 mins then revs picked up again and off she went. got it back on the drive and it died again.
i bled the injectors as i wasnt sure if 300tdi is self bleed started at the front and worked back but still the same problem so bled it again other way round but still no joy.
i want to drive the v8 again as i dont trust the wife with it but cant work out if she seized it or if the fuel pipe breaking was the cause of the break down its so strange the engine turns over at normal starting speed but just wont behave when its running then it dies.
so any ideas would be most appreciated if the engine is fooked my options are cummins 150 straight 6 out of my rotten daf45 another 300tdi or my 1993 emmental cheese discos bullet proof 200tdi engine cummins conversion is going to be time consuming and most expensive would rather try and save the 300tdi if poss as i had kinda ear marked the 200tdi for an off roader project

put a ratchet and socket on crank pulley-see if it turns over with compression smoothly. normally hot partially seized engines won't turn over till cooled down.

If it would still crank I doubt she seized it.

more likely sedimentor or fuel filter blocked. undo sedementor by top bolt-plastic drain taps snap

thanks G-man but the thought of doing an engine swap on my gravel drive in devon over winter is going to be the very last option seeing as it turns over fine have turned it over by hand with the engine warm and cold and can feel each piston coming onto compression stroke ok, where is the sedementor i will check that nxt. fuel filter could be an issue had the oil burner over a yr and put 15000 miles on it without a servive it was slower at pulling away than when i first got it. landys i luv and hate them all at the same time.

i'm building a landy on a gravel driveway in essex over the winter.... don't expect sympathy from me lol

to be fair though it dont rain half as much in essex compared to dvon when i moved her and got told it rains 6 days of the week and on the 7th it ****es it down i laughed but its so true

...... then there is a lesson to be learned...... don't let yer misses break the motor!

thats a painful subject she is a typical woman no spacial awarness and has wrote off every car i got her till i put her in a diesel landy not fast enough to race anyone or overtake lol and to be fair to her the 200tdi died cause of metal cancer not cause she killed it

ok so i been ****ing about with the disco for the last couple of hours and i can confirm that compression test is good on all 4 pots and close enough for a 130000mile engine for me and there is no water in the fuel filter. but there is a weird bubbling fizzing noise from the filter when the engine dies so im going to change the filter are there any more filters on the fuelsystem that i should change as well

ok so today i fitted the new fuel filter this evening and worringly the old one didnt look too bad. fitted the new one and checked the lift pump which seemed ok. filled the filter and put it on and fired it up and it went straight away revved fine then went lumpy and died again:frusty:

well it dont sound like its siezed, but does sound like a fuel issue, have you looked at the sediment filter under the the rear? also you might have an issue with the lift pump or maybe blocked or split fuel lines??

ok so i have been right through the fuel system cleaned all the lines and put fresh fuel in and i still the same despair is starting to set in now:confused:.
has anybody else got any other suggestions cause it really isnt fueling now

i had the same problem turned out to be a piece of insulation tape in the tank that got sucked on to the end of the pick up pipe. Curred now

crack the fuel filter top union and operate the lift pump for 2 mins.
tell us when fuel emerges, if ANY bubbles come out, how long they came out for and how long you pumped after they stopped.

nrg
