Ok i admit i'm probably being thick but...

Does anyone have a picture of an extended gearbox breather in place cos i cant seem to find out where the bloody things are supposed to go! I've got oil coming out the top of the box so i'm guessing its to do with a hole on top behind the lever? So thought as i've got axle breathers, a gearbox one could go on at the same time as i've got things opened up!

whats causing yer oil to come out the top? and ah think most breathers end up running up along side the snorkel if you have one. if you int ask marcus about one

What i was after was the actual place the breather was attached onto the gearbox! Told you i was being thick! As for the oil, it clearly runs down from the top of the box nice clear runs down the sides, theres got to be a hole up there?

But the oil aint ment to come out, so you got a probloem with your box

is yer box overfilled? have ye got a crack in it? you sure its g/box oil?

I know! costin me a bloody fortune! any ideas why its doing it? Really getting on me nerves but i'm getting good at filling it up! Got hold of a large syringe, works a treat!

It has to be gearbox from where its coming from, i only fill till it reaches the hole, transfer box is always full to the level, it looks like gearbox oil, got same colour, if it isnt its somethin else that looks similar and would run down over the gearbox!

cant see a crack from under it, but it runs evenly down both sides of the tunnel bit, i'l have to try get the seats off but mrs is back tomorrow so prob not this weekend!

Ahh rite see you are kind sometimes helping the land rover disabled with no clue wot they doin! So... Hows that come orf then? (no i think i can manage that myself!)
So when i that off can i fit the breather? Still not know where it fits! Even i could find the axle ones! Even got em to fit!

Okey dokey. Shan't give you any advice on snork's cuz unless yer planning t'keep goldfish in it, I'm not yer man!

The hole on top of yer gearbox, under the tranny tunnel in the middle of a kind of circular disc (which may or may not revolve) is the breather hole. I've got extended breathers on mine, but I would have thought there'd be some kind of small mushroom vent screwed into it rather than just an 'ole? Dunno fer sure tho'.

You def' shouldn't be losing that much oil thru the breather hole & if you are putting a remote breather on it is gunna be a bit daft cuz it'll jest fill with oil & eventually prob' stop everything else breathing.

You absafknlootly sure that much oil is coming out thu it? It's not getting out elsewhere or getting pumped into yer transfer box (duz yer transfer box always seem overfull or duz yer tranny box also seem to be leaking - The bolts holding the rectangular plate on the unnerside can often come loose)?

Thinking about it it does seem that the trasnfer box is filling more than i put in it! Always runs out when i open it! But not a lot! it is such an obvious run down the side of the box and can be followed along, it does seem a lot of oil! I did think a dodgy seal between the transfer and gear box but would this lose oil? I have cleaned the area and seen the run down it doesnt seem to be coming from transfer case, all bolts have been checked.

will really have to look from the top and see if i can locate exact point after a clean and a bit of a run!
