Disco 2 Oil spot on boot after long motorway journey

Just driven about 200 miles along the motorway and noticed the rear boot especially on the spare tyres cover small spots of oil. I know it has a transfer box leak at the moment which is enough to leave small drips on the driveway, so, is it likely that at motorway speed this oil is blowing off the transfer box (the cross member under it is very oily) and the circling back onto the boot with the air current at motorway speed, or is it more likely to be from the exhaust? If the exhaust what can cause that and is there any tests I can try to find out?

Far more likely to be the oil leak.
At motorway speeds any leaks under the car get wafted back and up at the back. I have had diesel and ATF exactly where you describe. It's to do with aerodynamics!

I was hoping that was most likely and makes sense, also means it’s the problem I know about not another one

In my cases, the first one was diesel coming from a split return hose on a 300tdi. In the second it was ATF from a leaky autobox on my TD5.
Drive slowly and it doesn't get picked up by the slipstream, drive fast and it does. Also watch out for the hand/tranny brake as the fluid can get in there and cause a lack of effective braking.:eek::eek::eek:
This was worse in the first case I mentioned. TD5 brake seems better protected for some reason.
