Just another quick question,
Has anyone rebuilt their early V8 oil pump using one of the kits to give more capacity like the later engines?
Mine is still the early small capacity pump and seems in good condition, is it worthwhile upgrading?

Cheers,

Did the original use two gears mounted side by side??

If so, the later GEMS/THOR injected engines uses an outer gear with an inner gear driven off the crank....

Not sure if the 86/87 onwards EFi used a similar twin gear pump as yours but larger....never delved into my 88 or 93 classics that deeply!

I believe all early v8's to 1976 like mine use an oil pump which has smaller gears (not as deep but otherwise identical, after 1976 they went to the larger pump which is identical but a bit deeper, giving more flow rate, this pump was used up until the serpentine engines I think, so probably 88ish.
The serpentine crank driven pump lasted up until 2000ish??? not sure on that one
I assume yours has the last type of oil pump which is part of the cover?

Anyhow there is an upgrade available from rimmers for my pre'76 pump, I just wondered whether it was worth doing for the £80 odd it will cost, or is the engine ok with the low capacity pump? I assume they upgraded it for a reason

if it aint broken....

...Is a very valid point... I just start doing minor jobs and get carried away, all this started with a radiator recore, which led to changing all hoses, which led to replacing the water pump, which led to braking one of the long bolts and removing the timing cover to drill it out, which led to replacing the timing chain and sprockets, and finally(I hope) has me stewing over the oil pump!
I suppose its hardly an effort to change at a later date if I really want to.
