Hi all
I was told the noise could be a faulty oil pressure switch seeing as it only happens at low rev or start up. Sounds plausible?
Question is where is it and how do I go about changing it
Thanks

Just changed mine

It's behind and down from the oil filter housing,
You will have to remove the starter motor, this can be a bit of a pain,

Starter motor = 3 x 13mm bolts/nuts

Oil pressure switch is normally 22mm sometimes 24mm you will need a deep socket to go over the connector.

Hope this helps let me know if you need more help

Only about 15- 20 min

The front bolt is easy to get to, the rear bolt is a bit trickier, you don't have a lot if room and I did bleed for abit after!

But dont let that put you off!!

Suggest a 13mm socket with a 5-6inch extention, should do the trick, also make sure you disconnect battery before going anywhere near the starter!

thansk for that :) would not have thought about the battery :) Why did you change yours out of curiousity? what were your symptoms?I have this tapping noise that is only there on startup and idle . Added tappet cleaner and no joy. A guy in the motor factors suggested it and it sounds likely.

A failed oil pressure switch won't cure tappet noise at startup. It's more likely that you have a follower draining down while stopped. If it stops after a minute or two, don't worry. I have 2 noisy followers on my V6 when I start it from cold. They shut up after a couple of minutes. One day I'll think about sorting then but I'm not unduly worried.

nodge does yours do it on idle too?

Very quietly. It's most noticeable when the engine is cold but quietens soon after the oil has got round.
Lots of things can cause noise tappets. High milage is the most common and not normally anything to worry about. Sometimes they can start tapping after a work is carried out in an engine gasket where a sealant is used. Silicone is a devil as it blocks oil ways. If this has happened, it needs sorting.
Sometimes a follower can go out of tolerance too, again it's best to get it sorted.
