Had a nightmare changing the oil on my 300tdi today, granted I left it until it nearly went dark before I started and it was freezing cold but...

Undid the sump plug and missed the oil pan by a mile so about 3 litres went on the driveway, another litre hit the steering bar and diverted itself into my face (ouch) and the rest went it my hair (well why take two bottles into the shower)

So next up I tried to remove the oil filter and found I needed arms like a baboon, the thing was stuck well on and after half an hour and hands looking like a bare knuckle fighter I gave up...

Reluctantly as I needed the car for work tomorrow I replaced the sump plug and bunged in the new oil leaving the old filter in place.

My filter wrench is just a cheap chain type and I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything more affective given the limited space available?

Why do Land Rover make serviceable items so bloody hard to reach?

Yup, hammer and screwdriver then I went for the strap and then the chain but then I saw the light and now it's......

Next time replace your sump plug with one of these Drainplug 4x4 Store then at least you wont spill oil everywhere.
Your oil filter shouldn't be that tight. Use a hammer and screw driver to get the old one off next time and don't over tighten the new one, then your chain filter wrench should do the job fine
