Hi guys,

Now that the manifold blowing has been cured I can now hear that less nasty ticking noise again, sounds to me like the lifters maybe. Google and forum searches seem to back this up. I have searched the forum and a few threads popped up mostly for old Rangies so thought I better make 100% sure for the Freelander. Google searching turned up reccomendations for Wynn's Hydrolic Valve Lifter Treatment - but I don't trust the rest of the internet. Can you guys name any product that is a) safe to use in the K series and b) isn't just snake oil. It's a quick fix I know, but if I try that and it doesn't work then I'll know it's perhaps time to move onto to more serious solutions. I'm not hugely bothered by the noise, and it's only audible when you're outside the vee-hickle but none the less if there's an easy potential fix I'd like to hear about it :).

Ta,

Will.

mixes with water as well
i.e. it uses liquids as a 'carrier' ..

i used it for an engine oil additive ..

and at 5% by volume .. in the power steering fluid .. and engine coolant ..
aim to add it to the transmission drives at some stage ..

Holy smoke, that looks extremely impressive! I will definitely give it a try! Thanks man, much appreciated :). What ratio's do you use other than in the egine then?

i've had an engine 'tick' since i bought the motor feb. this year ( had 37k on odometer )
it's in time with engine revs .. but sounds more like in-time-with-valves ..
no idea what causes it .. and maybe it's just part of the general diesel engine noise :)

it's more apparent when the engine is cold .. quietens down as it warms up ..
( and it's not exactly a loud noise to start with )
since i added the zxi to the oil that noise has got much quieter ..
and is as good as non existent when the engine is hot ..

lately i've been adding zx1 to the fuel .. just 10ml at fillup ..
plus i've been doing more 'M' driving lately ..

took a drive yesterday from Bradford to Whitby and return ..
so fast-ish 'A' roads .. and 20 miles or so of 'M' way ..

ocurred to me .. just now as i went to fill up the tank ..
i'd not heard that ticking noise at all :)
maybe it's the warmer weather ..

yeah .. i'm driving a td4 ..
but it also uses hydraulic valve lifters

not the first diesel i've driven ..
but certainly the quietest :)

i did use to use 'slick 50 ' with a motorcycle ..
moto-guzzi .. i.e. shaft drive .. not chain ..
that worked pretty good in the engine oil and transmission ..

almost used it for the td4 .. untill i saw a mention of zx1 on LZ :))))
i like the idea it mixes with water .. so in theory could protect engine and transmission
in the event of 'coolant-in-oil' scenerio .. or condensation in the transmission bits .. etc ..

btw .. zx1 aint exactly cheap ..
however the engine oil treatment is said to be good for 25k miles

Thanks that's really helpful. Nothing is cheap about a Freelander ;). At least compared to my previous car.
