Noticed this blanked off Tee ???

Hope you had a good Xmas......weather not too good for under the bonnet lurking !!
From memory, you may be right about the vacuum chamber. Can anyone advise it's purpose and likely effect of having it disconnected ? I can see the logic in having an accumulator to provide a back up of vacuum when the demand increases and the pump can't cope with the surge in demand.

In any event, I will test it under low pressure for leakage.
 
The vacuum canister should be in the line going to the turbo vane solenoid, have a look at the back of the canister, you might find the connection is broken off, it is fairly fragile. Mine broke off & I pretty much did what was done in your pic until I got a new accumulator, didn't notice any difference at all in the way it drove while the canister was bypassed.

Thanks for the info.-appreciated.
Had a look on Microcat and the part number is STC4543, costs around £22 + VAT.
As you say, the car appears to be runnng o.k. I will probably buy a length of silicone vacuum hose and replace the lot whilst I am at it.

you will notice it if you go down a very long hill like the one from Buxton to leek , your brakes will go hard and you will wish you had seen to it thats if you make it.

Used to do a few diagnostic jobs on P38's for Buxton 4x4.
I thought these Gaylanders had gearboxes with 1st & 2nd gears plus the all singing & dancing HDC control. :confused::confused:
I've never gone down a steep hill, no matter what the car, with my foot permanently on the brakes...I always thought that's one of the reasons they put an expensive gearbox in a car !!!:D:D
 
After all the good advice on here, I decided to have a good look around in between the showers and did find that the plastic vacuum reservoir was in fact disconnected due to the small stub pipes where the hoses are connected, being broken off. Ordered a replacement from Rimmers which makes things obvious. I have measured these fiddly and fragile looking stub pipes and they are 4.87 mm. diameter so therefore, I think the hose size should be 4 mm i/d. Got onto the old Ebay and decided to buy 2 metre lengths of both 4 mm & 5 mm silicone vacuum hose for a tenner posted.
If the drizzle stops today, I will fit the reservoir and if the hose arrives, replace that at the same time.
Then it's change all the oils/filters and rear brake shoes......but that's another story for another day !!!!!

*UPDATE*
Postman Pat has just delivered the hose and the 4mm I.D. fits a treat without busting a gut trying to push it onto the stub, so hopefully it's onwards & upwards !!
