non-stop engine??

Hi,

I am about to leave on summer hols, although last night when i tried to switch off the ignition it failed to stop the engine...seemed very funny at the time...(i was left holding the key in my hand thinking 'where's this noise coming from???') then once i shut the headlights off, the engine stopped..so my tip of the day, switch your lights off before you turn the ignition off!!! probably some simple fault.... any ideas??? won't be back for a fortnight..unless it turns out to be a serious fault??? High is youre car a Diesel ? if so the timing may be out.

If its a diesel try the stop solenoid, they can get sticky and prevent the engine from cutting off.

Ouch, similar thing happened to me, cost me a new injection pump....nasty swarf stuff was blocking the stop solenoid form working
