OK - been a while since I've been on here and I've grown up and gone from an FL2 to a Disco 2 TD5 Auto (nice motor and I can fit my entire mobile disco business in the back without a trailer :) )

I've searched the entire web for this one, and no-one seems to have a definitive solution so hoping you can help....

However......

I've had this problem twice in the last 6 months...both when I've desperately needed to be on the road and getting somewhere.

The scenario is this....I've been driving all day no problem, stop the engine (to load the mobile disco into the back for example), get back into the driver's seat, fire the ignition....nothing. It's like it's in something other than P or N when starting. I've actually taken to leaving the engine running for the 15 minutes it takes me to load up "just in case" recently. The entire dash lights up as normal, then the M&S lights come on and nothing happens apart from a relay click on the passenger side. It's almost like it's immobilized (except the fuel pump is running from the rear offside so it can't be the immobiliser as that as far as I understand cuts the fuel pump too)

The auto stick in the middle is showing the right readings by the way for whatever it's selected at.

Add to this, the blip stops working at the same time (new key battery by the way). The motor will lock/unlock with the key....but the alarm goes off.

Had the local spanners out the other day because I couldn't start it, disconnected battery and left for 24 hours....it worked!??? He even put a booster battery on in case it was the battery at fault...nothing (it cranks over in minus temperatures without even waiting for the glow plugs so pretty sure it's not the battery).

Like I say, it's only happened twice in the past 6 months...but it's when I've NEEDED it to fire up.

The only thing I can find on the interweb is to replace the XYZ switch. I've never had a problem with limp mode, so not entirely sure this is the problem but completely open to ideas.

Any help would be really appreciated. I'm using the Disco for a business and as reliable as it normally is....it ALWAYS goes wrong when I need it the most :(

Hi, unfortunately if this non-cranking symptom is always together with the remote failure the problem is most probably with the BCU, make sure there was no water ingress to it which means unplug the battery first, unplug the BCU(behind the glovebox, 4 + 1 plugs, one on the side) and inspect the pins to not be corrosion but give them contact spray anyway...if no joy we'll speak again... if you are up to make some measurements and you have RAVE i'll tell you more
