Has anybody else removed the middle and rear box on a D2 TD5?

Ive had a straight through centre section on for a month or so and have just hacked the rear silencer off at the pipe to silencer weld, Its a little too loud but sounds good.

Can anybody reccomend a rear box that i can weld on to the existing exhaust that will give me a noise in between having the rear silencer on and having it off (if you know what i mean) A little louder than having it on and not as loud as having it off.

Doesnt seem to be any videos on youtube of a complete straight through Pipeon a D2 so i'll get one on and post the link.

Thanks.

What is the point of a truck making a great deal of noise i just dont get it please enlighten me.

Maybe the MOT tester, if he's doing his job, will be thinking the same have u thought about that tdfive :)

"A silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition."

I've removed my cat and centre box and its not made a massive difference to noise! Mot test is very much down to personal opinion of the tester. The turbo does a lot of silencing its not like taking an exhaust off a v8 disco that'd be deafening. Personally I would keep a silencer maybe a Janspeed back box or similar as they tend to give a nice note. It's personal preference, I think a tuned td5 sounds great, but if too noisy it gets annoying after a while so its about finding a happy medium:)

i may be wrong as i havent checked in a mot manual but im sure i remember being told it has to have a least one silencer fitted to meet mot standards. dont hold me to it because it was just something i was told, but if its true and you are doing it bear in mind your going to need one for mot time

Could try putting an old centre box at the back, think they are straight through aren't they?

I used to be a tester? Been a while now tho, had a quick look, it's not a fail to have no silencer, but its a failure to have one or one in a condition that makes it unreasonably noisy! So it's down to the testers opinion really. Mine sailed thru at a land rover dealer with just the tiny back box, no advisories. I think the general assumption is that the mot is a lot stricter than it actually is!

Well,Its got almost a full mot on it, passed no probs with a straight thru mid section. Having done about 50 miles in it, i dont really like it tbh, gonna weld the silencer beck on next week. I had to find out what it was like though.

If anybodys thinking of doing this, just dont!

Alive tuning reckon that a simple cherry bomb type silencer in the centre pipe makes em much nicer and gets rid of the drone you get at cruising speed

Removed the middle pipe and fitted the midbox back on for now until i manage to weld the rear silencer back on to the exhaust.

May even stick with the stock pipe now, seems so quiet, definitely feels restrictive though. Forgot to do a vid. :(
