hi all
My 1996 diesel auto rangie has no power and the engine management light is on continuasly when in neutral it will rev as normal but as soon as drive is selected it foot to the floor and it bearly moves had it on the diognostics and and it came up with ecu temp sensor fault and fuel shut off solonoid. both temp sensors have been renewed and also no4 injector with no change but before i go spend £90 on a fuel shut of solonoid is there anything else i can try and can anyone tell me about no4 injector ie do you have to have it set up or any info regarding the no4 injector please

dunno if the fuel solenoid can be anything other than open or closed,so if it was faulty the car would not run at all or cut out periodically.
When you say Engine man. light, is it the little injector or the engine symbol?
Dunno if yours has a MAF as it is a 96 but i would check that,as they do not always show up on diagnostics.

the car moves in gear it just very very gutless and it has not got the maf next to the air filter

yeah changed all the filters and no change alot of people keep telling me its either the no4 injector and you have to have it set up or its crank sensor i have changed no4 injector but not had it set up do you know if it has to be set up or not?

No screw in and go

i have tryed tapping the solonoid but no change i will try a new one if that dont work it must be the injector pump thanks for all the help

Ok but Solinoid usually either shuts fuel off completely no fuel atall of when you switch off carrys on running and you need to stall have checked the map pipe the one that leads to the air manifold from the fuel filter but that wouldnt make your engine light stay on more like injector ; or crank sensor could just be starting to break down

Has it gone into "limp home" mode?
Mine has done that. The car was absolutely gutless. The auto box also stopped working. I think it was stuck in 3rd gear as I remember.

I didn't get a massage I know that for sure. I would have remembered that.
There was nothing saying "limp home" mode on the dash.
Can't remember which lights were on - it was years ago.
I was ****ing about with the engine ECU at the time. I fitted a new chip and cocked it up.
It ticked over OK but was absolutely gutless and wouldn't rev. The gearbox wouldn't change. It seemed to be locked in third gear. I think the EAS also stopped working. It defaulted to the off road setting as I remember.

There is no set up for number 4 injector.
It will not run at all I think if the crank sensor has failed completely.
If the injector light is on then there should be a definitive fault on diagnostics, if the injector light was not on, I'd say look at the MAP sensor and the tube that connects it to the manifold and the in tank pump.
However as the injector light is on, I'd be looking at live data on diagnostics from injector number 4 and the crank sensor and also the temperature sensor for the engine ECU and air temperature. It's not unknown for the timing pins on the flywheel/flex plate to go missing or to damage the sensor.
A duff temperature sensor can put the engine in limp mode.

My dse had a similar symptom for the first 10 seconds on a cold morning, would rev freely until in drive then Wouldn't accelerate for a few seconds, topped up the gearbox oil, didn't take a lot, 1litre ish and now pulls straight away
