Still having a problem with my indicators.

Started with the fuse blowing, which I replaced a few times, whilst ignoring the real problem.

This eventually ended with no indicators working.

I've just received a box of spares and have started working my way through the problem. New complete indicator stalk, new flasher and still no joy.

Electrics aren't my strong point so need a bit of help tracing this one through, please.

(I noticed a broken blue wire behind the dash which I think might be for the oil pressure gauge. Looks like aftermarket wiring? Trying to fix this as well, as it reads maximum pressure oil the time).

check there arnt any loose wires earthing on anything. Ihad the exact same problem myself and it turned out to be a 'black' wire lose in the back......never did work out where it was meant to go though !

It sounds like it's shorting out somewhere, I presume it makes no difference if you use left or right indicators? If so, I would guess it's behind the dash, get in there with a torch and check for broken/bare wires etc. Maybe check where the wires go through the bulkhead too.
If it's no longer blowing fuses, look for burnt or melted wiring. :)

There should be a green wire from the fusebox to the flasher relay, a light green wire from the flasher relay to the stalk switch. If it's blowing fuses with the stalk in the central position then the fault is in these wires or the flasher unit - or the stalk switch is really broken.
If the indicators aren't working but it's not blowing fuses then you'll need to go chasing the fault from the fuse forward and you'll probably need a meter to do it.

Ah you mean the hazard flashers work but the indicators don't? That's probably 'cos it's Australian - land rover never fitted hazards to the early series vehicles in the UK, but it's possible it was a requirement for Australian exports. Or it might be an after market job. Sorry, don't have a wiring diagram for this.

No hazards on this un. By flashers I meany the headlight flash function.

As I say, everything works except the bloody indicators.

Trying to figure out the supply, but I'm a bit of a donkey with a multimeter

In that case following the wiring colours above, firmly connect the -ve terminal of the meter to something metal and earthed (like the black power takeoff terminal on the dash) set it to DC volts and the next range up from 12volts. Check it works by connecting the -ve of the meter to the red power takeoff terminal, the meter should read the battery voltage. This voltage should also appear at the input to the flasher unit, the output of the flasher unit and at the stalk switch light green wire.

I had this on mine I had all new lights and indicators all round did my nut in turned out to be an earthing screw in one of the indicators on front wing try all of them

OK, I've got 12volts at the inlet to the indicator assembly (from the flasher relay).

12 volts at the copper spring thing that connects voltage to either left or right indicators.

But, when I move the stalk to indicate the voltage drops to zero. This happens on both left and right indicator position.

Is that normal??

Can't be, as they're still not working.

Help, please

That could be ok if there is a path to earth somewhere in the indicator wiring. A better test might be to use bulb on a wire , one end to earth and the other poked where you are trying to test.
If you do the same test and it's working the bulb flashes on the switched side then the problem's in the light unit or wiring. If it doesn't flash the switch is u/s.
If the bulb doesn't light in the feed side then the problem's between the switch and wherever it's fed from (fuse box?)

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

I've fitted a new indicator unit (complete) and a new flasher relay.

There is power to the indicator unit (horn, headlight flash, and high beam all work), but nothing works indicator wise.

There is voltage to the copper within the indicator switch unit, but when I indicate the voltage disappears.

Dunno what to do. Bit of a buffoon with electrics!

And you've got the wire from the fusebox to the connector on the end and the wire to the switch going from the connector in the middle? (not sure if this makes a difference, but it's how the manual shows it.)

Still think it's worth checking whether the voltage is real I.e. Can it pull a load. The problem could be further back than you think.

try disconnecting the feed to the flasher unit and run a good supply from the battery to test that its not a supply problem...:scratching_chin:

Might not be any help but, the wires going from switch to indicators are; Green/white and Green/red. Blacks are earth. :)

Your symptoms might be caused by the earth to the indicator repeater lights on the dash dropping off.
